Forma: Pop-up Communities & Economic Zones

Forma just wrapped up a two-week pop-up community in Sri Lanka. Forma is a startup that received a grant from Solana Foundation to host in-real-life (IRL) events around the world. So far, they’ve hosted a four-week event in Buenos Aires and a two-week event in Sri Lanka. A third is expected later this year. Forma’s four guiding pillars are:
Purpose: Forma is filled with passionate, crypto-native people working as founders, developers, researchers, creatives, etc.
Connection: Forma is community-driven, and strives to foster connection among attendees through events and shared spaces. They attract people who are open-minded, curious, and hold an optimistic world-view.
Culture: Forma events span the world and integrate local culture, attracting travelers and nomads. In Sri Lanka, Forma organized local classes on Angampora martial arts, drumming, cane weaving, Batik-style textiles.
Wellness: Forma sets time for optional yoga, mediation, and surfing, attracting people who prioritize health, wellness, and spirituality to form a well-rounded lifestyle.
All of these combine to create Forma, attracting people that align with these values. While Forma is crypto-oriented at its core, its extended duration and well-rounded nature allows for deeper connections to be formed. The typical two-day crypto conference begs urgency, whereas events like Forma allow for business partnerships, new startups, and human-level connections to be formed more naturally. The same can be said for other multi-week events like Solana Temple, Edge City, IslandDAO, and mtndao. Pop-up communities that last several weeks provide this opportunity, creating life experiences that are special.
Forma’s long-term aspirations are even more ambitious. Forma has worked with ~30 governments across the world, becoming experts in Special Economic Zones (SEZs). These SEZs are physical areas created to facilitate economic growth and offer friendly regulatory procedures, such as Shenzhen in China. Forma hopes to make these zones more discoverable for entrepreneurs, helping them take advantage of their benefits while fostering business activity for SEZs.
